I'm hopping in the car with $650 in my pocket, but you have about a four hour head start.
I kinda had the same thought. If you didn't want it I would drive out and buy it. I don't need another boat or take your deal though.

Consider decent-shape San Juans, O'Days, Catalinas, Chryslers, et al go for $1,500 to $3,500. The Rhodes 22 is a definate notch (or two) above them all. At $600, this is an absolute steal with no downside... if closer inspection revealed huge core problems or other killer conditions, you could still part it out for $1,200 or more.

With rotted tires, the trailer is probably worth twice that price.

Thanks for the input, I'm picking it up tomarrow (just talked to the owner). When I get it home I'll take some more pics.

When you roll that bad boy home, you're gonna have to ppost picks in the "amazing deal" thread. It qualifies.

Let's compare apples to apples.
BL: my point was not to compare the Rhodes 22 with the Catalina 22. I was trying to point out that for the money you would spend on a new Rhodes 22, you could buy a much bigger boat with standing headroom, inboard engine, etc. The Rhodes 22 is made for a niche market: that small demographic who is willing to pay a premium for a "luxury" 22 footer. Sort of like a Corolla-sized Lexus. I agree with you completely that although they are the same size, the Catalina 22 and the Rhodes 22 are not aimed at the same market.

Well, I got it home wednesday night. Upon a closer inspection last night I discovered that most of the deck core is rotten, once I got started to see signs of it I drilled a few holes, sure enough it was like a sponge.

So after contimplating a re-core I decided against it. I think I'm better off finding something else in better shape. So I decided to part it out. I joined the Rhodes 22 mailing list last week and have quite a few people interested in parts on there.

I'm keeping the trailer for sure, that will give me the option to buy a boat without a trailer and possibly get me a better deal. I've seen quite a few Cat 22's for sale without trailers. So even though the boat is no good, I shouldn't have any problem getting my money back in parts and I've gotten a decent trailer out of it.

You get a trailer and some Rhodes 22 parts for $650, and the PO doesn't have to pay someone to landfill his boat. Sounds like a win-win.
