Sabre 30 vs Canadian Sailcraft 30 ?

This will be my first sailboat and would be used for long weekends, coastal cruising in the NJ Coast/NY Long Island Sound area.

The Sabre 30 feels like a bigger 30 footer to me, also has the deeper draft, but more expensive. She has a lot of recent maintenance and care.

Recently having heard about Canadian Sailcraft I went to look at one and was impressed with the build quality, although this one has sat on the hard not being used for over a year and does not have the bells and whistles that the Sabre has. Much easier engine access - this version has 3 ports instead of 4. Not sure when they made that change. Needs a lot of TLC. probably cutlass bearing, alignment check (I noticed the engine mounts are very rusty) and engine impeller, oil, all the usual. Needs bottom paint also. The interior was otherwise very clean.

I've put the numbers into the sail calc here - Sail Calculator Pro v3.53 - 2500+ boats.

They seem very similar in performance, perhaps the Sabre with more displacement would be a better coastal cruiser?

I've looked at the support groups for both, a lot more info out there for Sabre.

Which of the two would you guys vote for?

Both companies make great boats. Everything else being equal, I would opt for the newer, better cared for and upgraded boat.

Believe me, you will find plenty of projects for either boat but it sounds like you may be doing more sailing with the Sabre in the short term.
