Should I run and get this?

Saw this just now on Craigslist. Seems like a good deal? Too good to be true?

What sort of reputation do Tanzer's have?

Re: Should I run and get this?

First boat I ever sailed on was a Tanzer 22. I don't know their reputation, but I do know that we were out in 4 - 6 with 15 - 18 knot winds, and the experience put me on track to where I am now - a sailboat owner. I have nothing but fond memories about that boat.

What does this mean? Why would you have to "apply for title" ?
Looks a little rough regardless of price.

Re: Should I run and get this?

Yeah..my first thought is the "most move today", odd payment, and the "owner can't help move it". That makes me worried about a scam.

My understanding of Tanzer 22s is that they are supposed to be fast little boats. That one looks neglected and a little rough around the edges though.

Re: Should I run and get this?

if i was in the market for a boat that size and i was in the area,i would probable jump on it,after i got a good first hand look at it,have the owner show you a registration even if expired, get him to write you a bill of sale and get it noterized, worse case senario you can get a title in a non title state then transfer back to fla.

I thought the same about the title. Does this mean they don't have it? Why wait till last minute to try to sell it? I check CL every day and haven't seen a listing for it before. Looks neglected, but nicer than my boat.

Also noticed no phone #. Sent email to inquire. Would think if it was that urgent to get a deal done today, a phone number would be available to expedite the sale?

Should I run and get this?

Tanzer is a decent Canadian built boat. I thought hard about getting a 26. They are quirky looking but generally well liked by their owners. 750 might be a good price if it's in ok shape, but finding a 22 for 750 isn't that rare (the 26 I considered was in very good condition with outboard for 3700). Don't jump on it unless it really looks good or put in a lower offer.

Re: Should I run and get this?

Apply for the title means he probably lost it. He can't transfer ownership officially until he gets it. If you buy the boat, go with him to be sure he applies for the title, and be sure you have him sign a bill of sale that includes the boat's reg ID.

And yes, it does look a little rough around the edges, but for the price it appears to be in fine shape. Six months ago (and 3000 miles East) I would have been there already, cash in hand.

Re: Should I run and get this?

Nothing to lose but some gas money to go and take a look. Tanzer 22s have good class support if you feel like racing, decent resale, and are largely solid little boats with more room than the average 22'er.

It's 5 o'clock somewhere:
