Irwin Citation 40 (1980) Reveiw

Hey all

I'm in the market for a big Cruiser., Blue Water Boat. There is a Irwin Citation on the market for less then 60K which it fits into my budget but don't know much about this boat.
Anyone with any info on this would be greatly appriciated.

I woudl be interested in somenes opinion about how does she handle rough weather? Has anyone had this in rough seas.????

Thanks......

Where do u want to go and what is your top budget. Irwins are fine but never my first choice for long distance cruising. They are great carrib boats or coastal, but Many have blister issues and there could be better boats for long distance cruising. There is no suich thing as a bluewater boat. Tell me your budget and ideal itinerary, I will give u my opinions. Others will also.

Hey Brian

I am looking for something long distance., maybe cross the atlantic in a few years. Ideally under 60K for a 40ft or bigger.

Thanks

Friend has an Irwin 39 of that vintage. Typical build quality for a production boat of that era. And he has had some success in longer PHRF races. But not my choice for crossing oceans.

At 60 k, that would not be my choice for crossing the Atlantic. I would either go smaller or maybe up my budget to an older Tayana 37 or somthing similar. I highly suggest buying a comfortable live aboard boat that will make you happy versus the boat that you might take somewhere some day. The long distance cruisers are typically expensive have draw backs. If you are serious about this, I am happy to discuss.
