New Sail Weight

Hi There,

We have a super-heavy 38' boat that needs new sails. We are light-duty "wine and cheese" sailors... are we ok with 7oz Dakron? is that the right material/weight for us?

Re: New Sail Weight

A lot depends upon the SArea itself, along with how big of winds you plan to be in. 7oz seems a bit light to a degree. BUT, IF you are truly wine and cheese sailors, and only venture out and in the wind when under say 20 knots, Dacron frankly may not be the best material, you may want to look at a laminated style cloth, as they will be lighter in wt cloth, and pickup zephyrs better than dacron will.
