Suspect hole in hull
Dear all,

This is my first post on this forum. I am in my early 30's, I have been sailing for over 10 years cruising and racing in the waters of the channel islands. I have decided to purchase my first sailing boat.
I have yet to purchase I am hoping for some comments on the image below from a boat I am considering.

It's located inbetween the keel and prop roughly under the engine. It seems rather small for a seacock and there is an obvious dampness. The boat sits on a cradle and whilst all other seacocks are dry this one still weeps some 3hours + after the tide. I am still pre-survery but do you have any suggestions what this is?

Engine raw water intake? Weeps three hours after the tide? What do you mean?

Re: Suspect hole in hull
Johnny, the boat was floating 3 hours previously and the tide went out (quite a tidal movement here). I was wondering if water had penetrated the core if there is one. There are signs of tiny bubbles. The engine had not been running for about a week so I'm wondering why would this one acts differently to other through hulls which are all dry.

Buffalobrewer there hasn't been any rain for a while and I'm not sure where cockpit drains to.

The boat is a golden shamrock 30 from 1979 by the design of Ron Holland.

Re: Suspect hole in hull
Since the hole sits over the engine, I was guessing it might be the raw water intake, but there is no thru-hull fitting visible, I wonder what is holding the interior fitting, strainer, hoses, etc. in place. I'd take a look in the hole and see what is up there.
