Ideal Great Lakes Cruiser?

I would appreciate members'' opinions on what they might consider the ideal 30-31'' boat for coastal cruising (and crossing) the Great Lakes. I can''t afford a brand new boat but would like the performance (and safety) benefits of an IMS (as opposed to IOR) design.
