Prout Quest 31 or the Americat 3014?

Which of the following two small Cats would be the best buy for cruising (mostly just one man and his dog but there could be two fishing mates from time to time) around the Australian coast and voyaging up to S.E. Asia. The two Cats I'm looking at, A Prout Quest 31 or the Americat 3014?

Thanking you in advance for your advice.

Re: Prout Quest 31 or the Americat 3014?

We realize that this response is a little late. However, someone may benefit.

My wife, 6 month old daughter, and I sailed the Prout Quest 31 from Florida to New Zealand. It took 3.5 years. Before then, I sailed it from England to Florida singlehanded. The boat is strong, capable, and never gave any indication of something to worry about.

We have just looked at the Americat 30. It is very similar The rudders are more vulnerable (They have no skeg to protect them). The Prout sailed well, and was capable even pointing (it's not a monohull, though). The Americat has a Cat rig, with no jib. We haven't sailed it, so can't tell you anything about it's ability.

Hope this helps,

Jon and Bambi Dinsmore
