Crealock vs. Tayana, vs. Cabo Rico

I'm considering 3 boats and would appreciate any thoughts offered.

1. 1979 Crealock 37
2. 1977 Tayana 37
3. 1977 Cabo Rico

Please assume all in similar condition.

Which model 1977 Cabo are you referring too? The Cabo Rico Tiberon 36 Ketch or the Crealock designed Cabo Rico 38?

For some of us, it would be none of the above! I am in that catagory, others will like one over the other two for various and sundry reasons. For me, all three will be way the hecko too slow!

We own a Crealock 34. There is a Tayana 37 on our dock. The Tayana 37 has a -lot- of wood trim topside. Pretty but requires much more maintenance than the Crealock.

There was a Crealock 37 that left our dock (Duluth) and sailed to Ireland via Newfoundland in 2011-2012. The boat and crew endured several gales. They have a blog, Google "Sailing Nokomis".

There is new post from Oceangirl. Looks like they are selling their 1989 Crealock 34 sv "Rain Dog". They seem to have done a lot of work on it and are selling it at a great price.

The Crealock 34 was derived from the Crealock 37. Very similar boats.

I have a 83 Crealock. It had significant hull blistering when it was pullled out for survey. Make sure you get a sinificant discount if you decide on the Crealock if blistered.

I disagree on the Crealock being slow. I sail the Chesapeake and it doesn't take a lot of wind to get the boat going. Alas I have a Yawl.

The one disadvantage of the Crealock would be storage space.

There are Crealocks out there circumnavigating.

IMHO..you should look at the W.I.B.Crealock designed Cabo 38. 1977 was it's first year of production. More in line to the specs of the other mentioned vessels on your list.
