Niagara 26 outboard

I''m looking at a Niagara 26 to purchase, but I wonder about the outboard arrangement. It looks very awkward, and am I right in presuming that elec start and remote control are essential. Looks very awkward otherwise.
Also, any info on production history, units produced etc.? I know the original mfgr went bankrupt, and production continued elsewhere. Were there design or quality changes?
I understand a webpage was being set up for Niagara 26 owners, but I can''t seem to access it. Can anyone help?

I have a 1979 Niagara 26 for sale in the Toronto area which has a
15hp OMC saildrive inboard engine.

The boat scored very well on a survey December, 2001 and is listed for 18,500 in canadian funds.

The boat is well equipped, in excellent condition and has five sails.

I have a Niagara 26 with outboard.

No the electric start and remote controls are not essential as you operate engine with the lazarette cover removed. They would be nice though.

Previous boat had outboard on bracket mounted on transom. The Niagara arrangement is no more awkward than the typical bracket mount system.

One comment about the Niagara arrangement. It utilizes a cutout in transom to mount the motor. With this arrangement the motor hight cannot be adjusted for sea conditions. When bashing thru big waves under motor the motor housing itself can actually be partially submersed. This fact and having a cutout in the transom (as a big hole) are serious considerations for seaworthiness. Swamped outboards do not run all that well!
