survey tips wanted for ontario 32

one stanchion crazed and loose underside of anchor locker delammed on edge, 3gmd engine a bit rusty but maintained. overheated last year but repaired and cruised afterwards. any areas i should look at on this boat?

What year? These are good cruising boats for our area but as ever, all the typical issues need a careful eye.

Loose stanchions often mean water intrusion below and the resultant damage.. is it a stanchion over a living space/locker or in the cockpit region.. often the ones near the cockpit get a harder workover esp if they are on un-reinforced gates.

The anchor locker lid underside is likely an easy fix, but try to figure out how that happened..

A running engine is a good thing, an overheating history not so much, if the engine has no aluminum parts it's less of a concern... however an extra close check/mechanical survey might be in order for peace of mind.

Wet decks are always a concern on cored deck boats, this one's no exception.

it is an 81 , . im having a yanmar mechanic check it on Monday, especially to see inside the water jacket for scudge, thru the thermo and zinc holes. it has lots of new engine parts ,hoses pumps etc. but the question , is it repairs or proactive replacement,. there are lots of spares and all repairs and installations done by pros. there was no active rebedding of deck fixtures in the last 15 yrs. will procede with survey if engine checks out ok.

I had to redo the anchor locker lid on my '84. Could be just a bad design on the lid. Factory installed hardware has been solid on my boat. Owner installed, not so hot.

I can't say for certain, but I believe if you have a 3gmd in it, it isn't the original engine, as to the best of my knowledge they came with a 13 or 15 hp (mine has a 13).

if it had been repowered once that would be great, not so lod then. i wonder what years they made that engine. the top of the anchor lid seems solid so if i can rrepair it from the back it will still look good. lets hope. everything is great about the boat but cant really justify the price as if it had no engine, and 30 years on a r.w. engine seems about the end of its life. amortizing cost of new engine over 30 years makes about 500 per. but if i sell within a few years it may not be realistic to expect a return. a new engine would give some peice of mind .
