Attention: Freedom Owners

I am seriously close to making an offer on a 1987 Freedom 30. I am in my mid fifties and new to sailing although I have owned many powerboats. My sailing area averages 10-15knot winds throughout the summer, seas 2-4 ft. You could really help me in my decision making by telling me what you like/love about your Freedom or what you don't like. Are you happy with your purchase or do you wish you had purchased something else. Any info will help. Thanks

I have an F38 which we love. Not able to make a comparison to the F30 as have no experience there. You may wish to Dk your question on www.freedomyachts.org. Great group of helpful folks.

What I like about the F38 is how stiff the boat sails, easy to single-hand, and a layout we love. This is my second Freedom (I purchased the boat from a person who had owned FOUR), which is quite a statement.

Good luck.

Sailing newbie here so I can't give you any personal feedback, but in case you've missed it I googled up a 2003 review from Practical Sailor. Here's the link:

Re: Attention: Freedom Owners

I have not met unhappy Freedom owner yet. Just look how long boats are staying in families.
There are aging problems for sure, and good survey is necessary, Dwight Escalera is the guy.
I love the rig and quietness of my boat. She is very easy to sail single handedly. She is very simple and smart...

Re: Attention: Freedom Owners

Freedoms are well constructed boats that have come way down in price recently. They were built by Tillotson Pearson in RI where they were building J boats and Alerions during the same era. A lot of the same workers were also building very nice Aldens either at TPI or nearby.
