My wife and I will be purchasing our first sailboat within the next five years. We have been on the water for some time now in a SeaRay Sundancer 340. We grow more in love with life on our boat and less with living on land.
We were going to be a 50ish foot cruiser and live full time on it; however, we have recently realized that sailboats are beautiful, spacious, and will allow us to venture out more often.
I need some direction in understanding what boats (with practice) would eventually allow us to sail from the US to Bermuda, Brazil, and eventually Europe. What length of boat should we look at? What is to short or to long for cross Atlantic travel? What mistakes or pitfalls should we avoid in our planning?
I have seen something about 'Class A' boats, but I cannot find a true listing of them.
We bought a SeaRay as they truly are best in class for cruising. I will never think 'name or brand' means everything, but I respect quality. We will live full time on this, so we want water maker, washer dryer, true macerator system in the head.
We really like this boat. It seams laid out well and seems to have what we are looking for. Any help please? Websites we should look at?
