Re: Riptide 31

WOW! She's pretty! Sorry I missed this thread! I haven't heard of a Riptide before - not that it's all that surprising. Is that a wooden mast and boom? Fiberglass hull?

Re: Riptide 31

Bilge keelers aren't exactly known for their performance underway, so I've got to wonder how the designer (or marketer) came up with "Riptide".

Re: Riptide 31

Thank You,
the hull is wood with a Kevlar wrap. the mast and boom are wood. And tanbark sails.
Old school at its best.

True these are not performance driven boats. But are supposed to easy at the helm and comfortable.
I wondered where he got the name myself.
The bilge keels on this boat are only half as long as in the original design. And in my research before buying her i found that they can be removed but doing so would add little to performance. Cutting edge performance was not one my criteria for my first sailboat.

OTOH Paul Bieker's Riptides and other projects are pretty much cutting edge!

Hunt:
You have a very interesting looking Riptide. No. it's not a Bieker but it looks good to me. How about some more pics?

BTW: Paul Bieker did his internship in my office. Used my boat without my permission. I was not cool with that. Kids!

Please visit my blog. It's fun to read.
