Advice for First Sailboat

I have recently completed ASA 101 and 103 and looking for my first boat. I am in the Tampa/St. Petersburg, FL area and will be mostly daysailing in the gulf of mexico and a few weekend overnighters. I have done some reasearch and sailing on the more well known manufacturers (catalina, beneteau etc) but dont want to overlook anything. Im looking for a something that I can bring along the wife and dog and take a few friends out on, but still something with as much zip as possible. Any suggestions would be great...Thanks.

Your situation needs more definition... what size boat are you after, how much money can you spend, are into "camper" cruising or do you need amenities like shower, h&c water, fridge, standing headroom etc.

Trailerable? Do you have moorage in mind?

Looking for a used pocket cruiser in the 22' to 30' range. I would like to spend less than 15k including upgrades and any needed re-fitting. Camper cruising would be fine, we wouldnt need anything beyond a head and small sink. I would be keeping the boat in a wet slip.
thanks again

Here's a link to search results from Yachtworld, with your parameters up to an asking price of $12K USD (to allow for improvements/upgrades) for the Southeast region of the US.

It's a place to start looking!

....being from Wisconsin, I have seen numerous Catalina 30's and Bayfield 29's for
15k and down that are fresh water and actually quite nice. Start looking at the 20k boats,
and hunt and bargin down.

Go to the sail boat listing type sites, plenty of Great Lakes boats to be had

happy sailing
