any info on this boat would be appreciated. the big question is if it can handle blue water with safety and comfort. thanks. david.

Don't have one, but have been on several in remote places around the world--they can handle offshore weather and I wouldn't hesitate to take one around the world if it is in good condition.

Without a doubt. IMHO, maybe Bob Perry's best production cruiser. Drawbacks? Just be aware that these boats are now 20+ years old. You're into the realm of the boat maintenance factor now. Were the previous owners on top of it, or where they slackers? Of course the other option is to buy a new one:

Norstar Yachts - Norstar 40

Another affirmative.. there was one here in Vancouver that did a multi-year Pacific cruise with a young-ish family aboard. Great rep on these US built boats.

I have an 1983 Nordic 44 under restoration and can't find the mfg of the portlight's. The drawings indicated Vassen. ANy help would be great.

Try Norstar yachts in Washington state, I think they are the original family that built the boat.

That's true.. the principle at Norstar is the original Nordic builder. At Seattle a couple of years back he told me that they would not bring back the (very nice) Nordic 34 as there was no profit in it... shame.
