Islander 28 vs Islander Bahama 30 vs Irwin Cititation 34

My quandary is which one would be the better for crossing the gulf stream and cruising the Bahamas, Bimini and perhaps on to the BVI? Irwin has good tankage, they all have 5 foot draft, in good sail away condition, except for the Islander 28. It is pristine. I really like that boat but the water tankage concerns me. I guess one could put in a water maker. What do people do besides line the deck with 5 gallon containers?

Opinions any one??

Tommy

A water maker is a pretty substantial and pricey bit of kit for a 28 footer.. What is the tankage arrangement now? any prospect of adding a tank, say, under the V berth? or a settee somewhere? It will cost you other storage, but as ever, compromise.

Other alternatives like rigging something up to catch rain might be helpful too...

Pristine is nice.....

The tank is under the starbord settee, 20 gallons is all it holds. Space for another seems to be a premium. The Bahama 30 carries 25 with 4 in the water heater and the Irwin carries 80. I like the 80 gallons and the wind generator on it, but that 28 footer sure is purttyyy. The Bahama could take another tank in the storage under the vberth, but I would lose some storage.

I am kind of leaning that way. But the others are in consideration. Irwin has a wind generator also. That also seems like a good idea while crusing around.

i did not enjoy sailing an irwin citation. was a 37.

The 28 is a Perry design. Never sailed one. The 30 is a Bob Finch design. The 30 is less money out lay, but needs a bit of tidying up. I do not like the lose wires at the radios. Little thing like that. The 28 needs some electronics for navigation. Think I could get by with out them, but sure would make life easier. The Irwin, I could sail away tomorrow. I wish I had a little fairy godmother to make the decision for me. Then, if something went wrong, I could blame her.

sail em all..sailing is so individual that no one can tell ye what you will or wont like,..heck ye might even love the irwin..dont let others make your decision---not until you have tried em all..have fun and go for it.this is best part of boat seeking-sailing them all....
