A Bristol 32 curiosity.
For years now, all I have seen was that the Bristol 32 was built in full keel with a cutaway forefoot, and centerboard models. There is hull #3 (1967), built as a custom model for Ted Hood, with a fin.
Project Intrepid Seas: Intrepid
The boat, named Intrepid, sails to this day, now in the Pacific and based in Japan. It has been retrofitted with an electric motor and is an ASA sail training vessel. Anyway, it was said to be the only fin keel Bristol 32. Now, another (1970, named Trumpeter) seems to have appeared:

Re: A Bristol 32 curiosity.
They must have had two different molds... do you think only two such were built?

Re: A Bristol 32 curiosity.
Far as I knew, (even on Intrepid's website) hull #3 (Intrepid) was a one-off customized job for the boss (Ted Hood) to give more maneuverability. It was said to be the only one with a fin. From everything I've read, there was only one mold. The centerboard models were even the same mold. They simply sawed off the lower portion of the keel and finished them with the centerboard. I suspect the fin-equipped hull started as all the others did and basically got an exaggerated "Brewer bite" to remove the rear portion of the keel, thus creating a fin (sorta reminds me of the Cal 40), then followed up with a modified separate rudder assembly. I'd think it could be done with any Bristol 32, but it's a mystery as to this second one. Was it done at the factory after someone saw Ted Hood's boat back in the 60's, or possibly later by someone wanting to duplicate it for the same handling reasons? I wrote the broker, but haven't heard back yet. These boats were never mentioned as being available with a fin.

There was one for sale in south Portland, ME about 5 years ago. May be the same one Charlie snapped a shot of.
