New Old Boat

Just bought myself a Bristol 30' and would like to know anything you Bristol owners have found out with your Bristols. Like what tends to need taking care of. Any problems you may have had. Modifications made, or needed. Repair problems. Or any good web sites for our boats.

Well, hull to deck joint on any Bristol is always a problem. If you get under there and look, you will see they did a pretty crappy job of putting a bunch of screws in there and some stuff that looks like plumbers putty in some cases. I have had two Bristol's and both of mine have leaked there. There is no real easy fix. You can caulk the cap rail well and hope that it stops the problem. I took off the caprail and removed the joint by glassing over it. Then made a pretty rub rail/toe rail/cap rail combination to cover it all up. I have pictures if anyone is interested. This was on the B26 - have not done it to my B30 yet and I am constantly chasing leaks. They are great boats and I hope you have many years of safe fun aboard here.

Sure I'd like to see the pics. I have a 32 and I am faced with the same problem soon. I'd like to tackle it this winter if possible. I have never seen the hull/deck joint on a 32 so I am intimidated to "break the egg" even though I'd like to eat the omelette.
