Hull ID vs. hull number

Hi all,
Just a quick question about boat specific hull number. I know the Hull ID number, (HIN) it is still visible in the gelcoat starboard aft at rub rail. But can anyone tell me how to decipher it to determine this particular boats hull production number? I noticed on the Bristol owners site for example people say this is boat #146 etc etc How do I determine this?

Here's some info from a Pearson site, but chances are it will apply to your Bristol as well. The Coast Guard also changed the HIN scheme in the early '80's I think it was. I'll track down a link to that site as well. The newer numbers end in a number and not a letter.

Here's the info from the Bristol Owners' website:

"Hull Identification Numbers

How to tell what the hull # of my boat is.

For example, on the transom is the #BTY245620773.

The first three initials of your "HIN", or Hull Identification Number, are the
manufacturers I.D. In this case, they stand for Bristol Yachts (BTY). The next two digits give you the length of the boat (e.g., a 24 footer). The next three digits give you the production number of your boat --- again, 562 means that yours was hull number 562 of the total number produced (often this is your sail number too). The last four digits give you the month & year of manufacture --- 0773 means your boat was built in July of 1973."

Lucky you.....I can't even see my HIN anymore, I'd love to know my hull number.

For example; n the transom is the #BTY245620773. Is there another number somewhere on
the boat or is the hull number in this group?
