Bristol 29.9 Mast Boot

My first season with a new to me B29.9 and the mast boot that came with the boat is somewhat homemade and does not seem to seal or support well. Does anyone know what type of boot would have been standard equipment? Or, does anyone know if this Spartite 2000 Mast Wedge product can be installed while the mast is already stepped?

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

Re: Bristol 29.9 Mast Boot

I use silicone caulking, once the mast is stepped I just caulk it and its good to go.

Re: Bristol 29.9 Mast Boot

On my 31.1, where the mast passes through the partners, there are wooden wedges driven into the gap. This is to stiffen the mast and helps to prevent undesirable bending (like mast pumping when going downwind on the jib only)

On the outside the area is sealed with self-amalgamating tape. There are no leaks.

If you are saying that your wooden wedges are missing, the Spartite kit sounds like a good replacement.
