I keep hearing of cheap deals on cruising boats down in the Caribbean. What’s the best way to find them?

Tom Wood responds:
There are a few good deals scattered around the Caribbean, but they take a great deal of travel time and money to find. Perhaps the best way to search for them would be on the Internet. I’ve seen quite a few of these "real cheap deals" down in the islands, and my only comment is that you get what you pay for.

Maybe your best bet from the standpoint of selection, price, and ease of seeing the boats is the east coast of Florida from Miami to Ft. Pierce—especially around Ft. Lauderdale. Many returning Caribbean cruisers sell their boats in that area at reasonable prices—some of them fabulously equipped to turn right around and head back south.

You might also want to check out the listings available on BoatSearch.com (www.boatsearch.com); there are thousands of boats listed there by brokers, builders, and private owners. Best of luck to you.
