Which boat

Hi there.........

I''m looking to buy a boat, with my dad.
I''ve sailed in the past and so did he, the only problem is the budget. We are looking at around 30K. This should include almost everything.

The other "keep in mind" is that the boat should be very comfortable, since both my parents are not so young anymore and need their comfort.
Will you guys be able to suggest me some?

You probably should define what "very comfortable" means to you, as "very comfortable" would be a "very limited" concept in $30K sailboats.

If You are willing to go afew years old and a few feet short (28-32'')You can mage a $30K boat Very comfortable. You can never have it all but you can get alot... My Lancer 29 is becoming a very comfortable liveaboard style boat. Big berth, tons of stowage huge chat table. Yes you can get a comfortable good sailing boat for $30k...

What are you going to do with this 30K boat? Weekending and short costal cruises are realistic in this price range. If you are handy and are willing to do resotoration that amount should buy you an older 35 in decent shape. This is certainly enough for short cruises for four people (3-4 wks).

Going live aboard? Forget it.

That depends on how many people will be trying to live aboard. I am quit comfortable aboard my 29. Being a guy I don''t require alot of personal space. The marina has the showers and sanitary facilities all I need is a place to cook relax and sleep. If the space I relax in is the same as the space I play in so what..I love living aboard and would all the time if it was just me.

Regarding men''s minimalist living requirements, I just saw the following item in "News of the Weird", a golden oldie from a 1999 column:

Mr. Wai Y. "When you''re busy working and playing tennis," he told a reporter, "when you come home, you don''t have much time to take care of an apartment." The bathroom is down the hall to the left, and he said he does not mind the exposed pipes or the linoleum floor or having to use a hotplate.

It''s a matter of the level of comfort you can live with. Some people need lots of space.. I don''t... It has to be the person who will be living or sailing in the conditions they can afford. My 29 it pleanty for me and capable of taking me anywhere. I just don''t think I capable of leading the way sometimes..
