Cal 28

I am considering purcase of a Cal 28 1986 manufactured by Lear Siegler Marine. There seems to be very little available information on this boat. Any information would be appreciated!

I think this is a real nice example of a quality, well-designed cruiser. Should I ever downsize, this boat would be at the top of my list. I came close to buying its bigger sister the 33 a number of years ago. Both boats are thoughfully designed, well made with solid glass hulls, roomy below for their size, and provide very good sailing performance.

As with any boat, do your due diligence, but IMHO you would at least be starting with a very desireable small performance cruiser. As with any boat, go for the deep keel unless you absolutely have to have shallow draft.

This era of Cals are much upgraded and modernized from the original Lapworth Cals (which are pretty good boats too - but the flush deck look of early 20s, 25s & 28s were not for everyone)

I think, like SF, that if your find a good one you'll have a prefectly adequate coastal cruising boat with good lines and accomodation along with good performance and habits.

IIRC in those times Rangers, Cals and perhaps others all came under the same corporate umbrella (Bangor Punta and then Lear Seigler) before production was ended.
