1970 CC 35

I was wondering if anyone had any info on the 35 in regards what to look for if buying a 1970 vintage. Presently I am not to familiar with boats of this age, but have seen one for sale, which interested me. From the pics I''ve seen, doesn''t look to bad, but before going 800 miles to look at it, thought I would search for some info, thanks for any assistance in advanced, Kelly

Try the C&C e-mail list, which you can join through Sailnet. It is very active, and you may find that they are familiar with the precise boat that you are considering.

Practical Sailor''s book "Used Boat Buyers Guide" is a great source for the type of information you''re looking for. I believe they republished an updated version last year, with more boats included. The ''70''s C&C 35 has a nice sheer and sails pretty well. (She rates a bit faster than several newer versions that came out later.) I looked at one boat that had been raced to Bermuda several times. By now, these boats are likely to be looking pretty tired, even if they haven''t raced a lot. Even tired, though, they can still look good without having everything all shiny-new. Below is simple, but adequate for cruising. Take a look - you may be able to pick up a nice boat for a good price.

That sure seems like a long trip to kick some tires!
If you don''t have mcuh experience in boats of this viontage, let alone, this particular model, I''d question making this commitment when you will be faced with a leap-of-faith at the end. Try to find a dozen or two local boats of this vintage to practice on and get some perspective. Note in particular the recent repairs/upgrades some will have: engines, rigs, sails, electronics, etc. etc.

The C&C 35 Mark I is not particluarly uncommon - ask throught he email list and you should be able to find some in you loacl area to look at. They are very spartan down below and not too roomy, but good performance for what should be short-money.

You should know exactly what you want before you go 800 miles to see if a boat is it.
