schooners

I would like as much info on sailing schooners as I can get. I''m interested in buying a wooden schooner some day (30''-40''). What are the benefits or disadvantages of gaff-rigged boats? How are schooners with speed? Can they be sailed short-handed with little difficulty? How about seaworthiness?
