I bought "Sailboat Buyer''s Guid conducting your own survey" by K. Doruyter. This book is so basic it is useless for me when trying to understand how to do my own preservey. Any sugestions on books that I can purchase? Thanks

I don''t know of a book per se on pre-surveying a boat, but I do have a rough checklist that I had put together for a friend who was looking at a boat and that I have used for pre-surveying a boat of my own.I''d be glad to email you a copy.

There are a couple. One, by a surveyor I was lucky enough to meet, is "How to buy a sailboat" by Hewitt Schlereth. Published by Norton in 1985. It goes through the procedure of boat buying but also what to look (and look out) for. Practical Sailor''s "Used Boat Buyer''s Guide" is a compendium of their used boat reviews. Reading this is a great lesson in what to look for in going over a boat, especially if the design you''re interested in is one of the ones reviewed. Even if not, their trenchant comments tell a lot about issues that are good to investigate in just about any boat. Nigel Calder has also come out with a book on surveying boats, likely available at your local Borders or Barnes & Noble. Have fun!

Publication info New York : Norton, c1985.
Physical descrip viii, 228 p. : ill. ; 24 cm.
General Note Includes index.

I emailed a copy of the one list. I could not find the more detailed list that I used on my boat.

I bought a book titled "How to buy the best used sailboat" or something like that. It helped me out quite a bit.
