hunter 22 - heavy weather helm?

Looking at an 81 Hunter 22 in need of TLC (I'm a poor craftsman so everything I buy needs TLC) Judging by the resale value on Hunters, I've always assumed they were towards top of the line but read some reviews on the 22 and all but one mentioned heavy weather helm in 15+ knot range. Has anyone heard of or experienced this. Bigger Jib - smaller main help? Did they put the keel too far forward? Longer tiller?

Heavy weather helm can be caused by a lot of things... an unbalanced boat design, too small a rudder, too much mainsail area up, etc..

It can also be caused by a boat design that is too tender, as heeling tends to increase weather helm—as the profile of the boat's hull becomes less symetrical, the tendency for it to turn increases. Also, as the COE goes outboard, as the boat heels, the tendency for the boat to turn increases.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.
