columbia 22

Wanted to hear what anyone thought of columbia 22. There is one for sale here in Texas and it would be a first boat for myself, wife and son. If anyone has any information would be greatly appreciated

I've sailed quite a bit on an open cockpit Columbia22 and I suspect you are looking at the cabin version but I understand the hull is the same. I like this boat a lot and it is built like a tank but sails close to the wind and is very stable. One thing I do not like is that the interior cross members are plywood and subject to rot. These cross members support the cockpit flooring and if you step on the floor and it deflects you can start looking at those cross members as the culprit. In my opinion, the boat is so heavily laid up that the cross members do NOT appreciably contribute to the structural integrity of the boat but any rotting should be replaced with new wood (epoxy coated) and tabbed to the hull.
This boat is an excellent first family boat for protected waters and lots of weekend fun.
