Ericson 36 Cruising Cutter

Does anyone have any thoughts or experiences with the Ericson 36 Cruising Cutter. I am contemplating a purchase and am not sure to trust my own instincts!

Swab-

It would help if you said what purpose you're buying the boat for. Without context it is hard to say whether the boat would be appropriate for your use or not. If you're planning to do an artic circle exploration of the Northwest Passage, then it probably isn't the best choice... if you're looking for a daysailing boat, it is also probably not a very good choice... since it is a bit large for that.

Sorry about the lack of information. My hope is to find a boat that would be suitable to enjoy with my wife and two young sons. We live near the Great Lakes and I would expect the use to be freshwater for the forseeable future. Most use would be weekend use and perhaps some week long vacations during the summer months.

I think it would be a fine boat for you. Make sure you get a good surveyor and you probably should get the engine surveyed as well. I would make sure the boat is rigged for single-handing, since you will effectively be single-handing much of the time your wife and sons are aboard.

You should check out the very active and informative Ericson owners web site for lots of first hand information on the E36. Several Ericson ex-employees hang out there. EricsonYachts.org: The Starting Point on Ericson Yachts!. Ericsons in general are very good, solid sailing boats and there are a lot of them on the Great Lakes). Best of luck.

I had me a 36 Cruiser back it the 90s..........She was a pretty boat but does not sail as good as she looks.....I regret selling here but only because of personal memories I had with her.

A better boat is an S2. I owned a 30ft aft cockpit and wish I still had it..This boat handles like a sports car..Remember the rule of sailing........Over 30ft and they become more difficult to single hand.
