41' Yorktown

I have been trying to find some info on yorktown boats. I found a couple of forum posts on sailnet here about them. My summary is:
They were kit boats.
They sailed ok for their displacement.
They have a deep draft.
The finish on them can be hit or miss.
They are solid boats.
Popular with liveaboards.
The worst thing about them seems to be that they are ugly.
Most seem to have smallish tankage(makes sense for what people use them for).

I really like the layout and the price on them seems ubeatable. One issue is that they all seem to be on the west coast not sure why that is. I am not especially concerned about thier performance atm and am more interested in the layout and the amount of available space.

Does anyone have any other info on these? It seems quite sparse. Anyone ever been on one or owned one?

Huguley3:
I friend of mine has a Yorktown 39 (41 O.A.) and he finished out himself to a decent degree (not bad, but not great). He has sailed her for about 15 years and likes the performance, stout when the wind pipes up but pretty spritely in light winds with a drifter. His will be for sale soon...he's moving up to a livaboard 51 footer.

Good luck getting a 40' boat for less than $50,000... At that price, most boats of that size are going to either be junk, or in serious need of upgrading and repairs.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

I have been on 36' pearsons that were in amazing shape and the owner said they paid under 40k for it. So I don't think its an unreasonable number. I am not looking for a floating castle made of mahagony and pearl.

Track down Rich Boren---he's got a pearson 36 called Third Day that we're doing the Baja HaHa on this month. I think he also started a website just for this boat.

I'll let you know my opinion if we make it to Cabo in one piece............

Yep---HaHa to Cabo, then up to La Paz where we are. Then bash-bash to Central Ca. in January. Turn around and head to Italy next summer.

Tough life.........
