Parts and value

"However, to say that these would take away from the value of a boat I dissagree with, totally, unless they are not working (and cannot be repaired) or VASTLY outdated. If your generator runs, it is worth something. A diesel gen is very expensive. I am sure Cam can attest to this, but there are many cruisers without them. However, not sure I ever met one who would have said, "I sure do wish I would have never put my generator in.. or this crappy old air conditioner that keeps me cool when it is 95 outside and raining!!!!" "

My point was that if you are looking at an older boat (say 10-20 years), many of those options may be practically useless. When I was looking at 33-36' boats, I was many that listed refrigeration as options. When you looked at the system, you would find it was 15 years old, used Freon, needed to be recharged, would have to be converted to something else, and would cost just as much as a new system.

You hear so many problems with marine generators. See this one:
Fischer Panda: The Final Chapter

How much value would you add for one of those on your boat?

For me personally, my boat sits on a mooring, I use it for day sails and weekend trips (with a week long trip once or twice a year). I don't take a dingy with me, but I do swim off the boat frequently. Dingy davits would be removed right away. I stay in marinas, so a generator and solar power is just something else to carry around and maintain (or rip out). Refrigeration is valuable, and my boat came with it (and it worked) so that was useful to me.

Again, IF you want the items, AND they are serviceable, then they have some value. But without knowing the particulars, you can't begin to put a value on them.

Someone said "it depends"
Yes it sure does, especially if the boat is less than say about 10 years old, maybe 5-10 YO. If I was buying used in that age bracket the added value of extras would have a significant impact on my buying decision.
I bought brand new and have not stopped spending and see no end to it in the immediate future (5years) and fully realize the value of the extras because I am buying them. I have been back to the dealer many times for various things and often stop to chat with prospective buyers that happen to be there. Some are previous boat owners and are more interested in a used boat for the very reason of extras and now I know why. If & when I upgrade to a bigger boat I would be looking specifically at how many extras are included as that would be the deal maker for me. I had no idea boat ownership was going to be this spendy, but I don't regret it, I can't take my money to my grave and I prefer to enjoy the fruits of my labour while alive. Still, the extras cost, and as long as they still function well and do not require replacing then they have added value.
I have bought and sold many things in life and found there will always be someone who wants a deal (something for nothing) and when the time comes to sell the love of my life I will tell them the extras are worth what it will cost them to replace because I am willing and able to remove any extra (I have a lot, with more to come) that is deemed by the buyer to be worthless. Now how much is that extra really worth???
