Privilege catamarans

I am looking at the purchase of a 45-50ft. Privilege or Broadblue/Prout cat. When I tried the search engine on this blog site for boats I was surprised to not find many comments on the Privilege brand. IMHO they have a very nice finish that seems comparable to Broadblue/Prout. The charter companies seem to have moved away from Privilege. I recently was told by a charter company that they were a nice boat but in recent years they moved into a different price point market that was higher than typical charter boats.

Many of the used ones listed for sale seem to have an ask that ranges from close to their original cost to 30% below that.

I would appreciate comments on Privilege and Broadblue/Prout??

Cold...We have friends who run a Privelege in the Grenadines for crewed charters and I know they love the boat. After their first one was destroyed by hurricane Ivan...they went out and bought another right away. I'm not sure if something happened with the company or not but they told us at the time that it was very difficult to find a used one as they were snapped up quickly. Here's their charter website in case you are interested in their further opinions...

Thank you Camaraderie. In the past they may have been sold quickly but they must have slowed down lately (probably industry wide for all brands). I have been watching Privileges on Yacht World used boats for sale and there has been virtually no sales for 6 months or more in the 45'+ category during that time with quite a few listings. The prices seem high for the ages of most of the boats so this is probably reflective of your comment about their quality.

Cold...that makes sense...actually theirs is a 39 or 40 footer and I think their comment was that finding one under 40ft. was a problem...probaly due to the cost of the larger ones limiting the market. Good luck on your search!

Cold, there are currently 27 Privileges listed on yachtworld.com in the 45ft to 49 ft, range 5 of them are Privilege 465s.

We have a Privilege 43 and love it, they do run a little higher but go hit the side of a lagoon and listen to the hollow thump, now find a privilege don't hurt your hand it will be solid.

Charles Kanter in Cruising Multihull's Communique, a review of over 200 catamaran designs in which he has personal sailing experience gives both Priv's and Prout's a solid rating.
Priv's are harder to find because they are built by Jenauau (spelling questionable), Bendytoy makes the lagoon and has plain out produced them.

If you like Priv's and Prouts take a look at Voyage, there's a nice Cat.

You know what the first rule of sailing is? ...Love. You can learn all the math in the 'verse, but you take
a boat to the sea you don't love, she'll shake you off just as sure as the turning of the worlds. Love keeps
her going when she oughta fall down, tells you she's hurting 'fore she keens. Makes her a home.

Yep, just like Moorings and Sunsail put nickels in the same pocket now.

Still, Bendy's got priority for product line. J's will go away in time or go for a totally separate market niche.
