On the offensive- boat shopping

I''ve been shopping for a bluewater cruising boat in the 45'' range. I''ve narrowed my boat search to a specific model. The boat type is a semi-custom higher end boat (less than 15 made). I''ve been in discussions with the builder regarding new construction, however the price is currently out of my range. I''m interested in soliciting the current owners of this type of boat to see if any are interested in selling this fall. I know the builder probably won''t be much help, as he''s only interested in contracting new construction. I also don''t want to completely rule out a potential deal with him. How do I find out info. regarding ownership? Is there a registry somewhere? I''m sure these boats are documented. I''ve tried looking for owner''s groups, but there just doesn''t seem to be anything out there. Any suggestions?

Cheers,

Cheetie

On the offensive- boat shopping

Cheetie,

How about giving us a head start and dropping the name of this boat on us? All 15 owners may read this list for all you know (yeah, right.)

I can also suggest laying this all on the builder. He has heard before that folks can''t afford a new boat and want a used one. He may know of someone with that 45 footer who needs a nudge to buy a new 50 footer, and having a sure buyer in the wings might help. Either the builder will or won''t help you. But I am somewhat familiar with a semi-custom outfit in Maine, and they certainly work with buyers for both new and used boats that they have built.
