In need of a surveyor

This is my first time using a surveyor and could sure use some pointers. What to look for in a surveyor and their work? What to expect as a result of their work? And any recommendations for a suryeor who does work in the CT area?
Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

In need of a surveyor

The surveyor I''ve used 3 times now in the Chesapeake area spends at least 6 hours going over the boat on the hard and 2-3 hours on the sea trial and at the dock. He produces a printed report of 20 to 30 pages. He does his research on the particular boat (type/manufacturer/value relative to recently sold boats, etc.) both before and after the survey. He''s been in the business for many years and keeps himself current with "continuing education" seminars, training, etc.
Although there is no real certification for surveyors, he''s a member of several associations and organiztions (SAMS ABYC).
Try to get one who does all of the above. Be there when he does the survey!!
Good luck!
