Going loco? Pearson 30 vs. Capri 30, Olsen 25

We have been very happily daysailing our trusty Pearson 30 for the past seven years in the Western Long Island Sound but now that my children are a little older (6 and 7) I am thinking of selling my trusty Pearson 30 to move on to something speedier and more easily maintained (no inboard engine). My research indicates both the Capri 30 and the Olsen 25 are good sailing, outboard powered boats with enough room for us to sleep below on occasion. The other consideration is that I would like to have a lower cabin house than the P30 when I am sitting in the cockpit.

Am I out of my mind?

Thanks! Chris

If you are, then I can out-crazy you. I recently sold my Mirage 236. It is a racer/weekender, but mostly a racer. Low, cramped cabin, lots of deck and cockpit space, PHRF of about 174, which is good for a boat of its size and class. I sold it to by a true trailerable weekender. I tested about 15 different boats in the class. I should mention the mirage is also not very trailerable because of its 9'' 2" beam.

Everything else I tested sailed so poorly, I bought (can you guess?) another Mirage 236. Same model, same year. I have never sailed either the Capri 30 or the Olsen 25, but both have excellent reviews.

I believe I have what both of you guys need, a couple rolls of duct tape and some plastic sheeting. I''ll let them go for $2,500, that should cover my 03'' slip fees nicely. Provide me with your addresses and they go out overnight, you''ll have them on Saturday. Enjoy the weekend.

Try a Lindenberg 26. Fast boat, roomy decks, good sized quarterberths, easy to sail short-handed or single-handed as well.

Get more info at www.lindenberg26.org

San Juan 27? Santana? Thunderbird? Shark 24? I know people who've cruised in J-24s, too. How about an old Morgan 30? Supposed to fly downwind. For that matter, try a Vega 27. These are all older boats, I know, but fast and seaworthy, too. Just can't resist this particular thread.
