Dingy on davits at sea

Hi

Can anyone tell me if it is OK to keep your dingy on davits at sea (any conditions). As I am considering buying a hard bottom inflatable which could not be stored below.

I dont think it is a good idea. All it would take is one good following sea to fill it up and ripp it right off. The bow or coach roof would be a better place for ocean sailing. My boat came with davits. At first I was going to take them off because I thought I would not be able to install a windvane, but I found one that would work(Cape Horn). They are also now where I keep my solar panels. -thomas
