Schock 36

Is anyone familiar with the Schock New York 36 and its attributes/limitations?

Thanks.

Schock 36

The Schock 36 was an IOR era race boat that started life as a one design class that did not live long and prosper. The design occurred before some big breakthoughs and so is a really a pretty mediocre boat. They tend to be quite tender and rolly. They are reasonably fast upwind with a lot of crew weight on the rail but really do not do well on reaches and runs.

The only one that I have been aboard was really used hard and had not held up very well which is consistent with other Schock built race boats that I am familiar with.

These are boats that I would like to like, but have generally found them wanting.

Would the same comments apply to a Santana 35, which appears to be very similar?

Thanks

Schock 36

Schock built three boats in the 35-36 range. The Santana 35 and Schock 36 use the same hull and were really very good sailing boats pretty much on a par with a J-35 in terms of speed but not build quality. Both are still very good PHRF racers. The NY 35 was a very different animal and not a boat that I especially like.
