looking for a boat

Hi all.
In 3 more years when I retired my wife and I are planning to buy our dream boat, a 46’, but in the meantime we want to buy something to practice. Something like a 31’, 34’, not bigger, not more than us $ 30.000, so when the time comes the selling of the boat will no stop us to buy the new one or when we sell it we don’t loose much.
We are planning to go in a week or two to Miami, Florida to buy something. And to ship it to Chile. We know that is only a temporary boat. Any suggestion?, does any body have something ?
I’ll appreciate any info.
Thanks in advance.
Jorge

An idea or two. Go to Yacht World -
http://www.yachtworld.com/boats/index.html.en
On the left side click on "Find a Yacht Broker". Look at several Florida brokers, not just in Miami.

Also do a search from that same page. When I tried "used, sailboat, 32-34, and $20,000. to $30,000." I got 263 hits. Not too many in Florida but some. Really liked the looks of the 1972 Tartan 34 Centerboard. I think it was in Jacksonville. Good luck. Oh, and is there nothing to pick from in Chile?

Hi .
Thanks for your prompt response.
Yes I did search in worldyacht list and I find a 83-30’Catalina ,81-33 Hunter and a 84,29’Bayfileld, surprise that in Miami there are no more boats of that kind. Have you got another tip?, what are your comments on this ones?
Jorge

I have very nice 1981 36'' Cherubini Hunter that I plan to put up for sale very soon in Corpus Christi Texas on the Gulf. But does not meet your size or price. Still working on what I believe we will ask for her. Most likely 36k.... We plan to move up to a 42. Sure do Love this boat but need a little more room for us and full time living aboard.
Good luck and you have gotten some very good advice. When you see a boat or two you like on YachtWorld or SailNet do some google searches on the builder and you should turn up additional boats and details.

Bayfields are pretty nice boats. I was looking at one before I bought my Westsail. I don''t remember if it was a 29'' or a little larger, but it was sturdy and well designed and had nice "lines".

There is a Bayfield Owners e-mail list which I subscribed to for a while to ask some questions about the boat. Can''t remember the web address, but search for Bayfield Owners and you should find it.

Good Luck!
