If ya really like the J-28, but...

Now that I''m retired, I want to buy a boat of my own and I really like the J28 - size, sailing, quality, looks - but I don''t want to spend $40-45,000.

I sailed a J28 with my brother''s friend near Chicago last summer...seemed to be a boat I could be happy with for a long time. But, they are rare on the west coast (NW) and sell for more than I want to spend (that price increasing even more when all the costs of delivery are added - ouch!).

So, I hope the minds here will suggest some alternatives: 27-32ft, $20-35000, fine sailing, good lookin'', well built...

Take a hard look at the Robert Perry designed Islander 28, a wonderful sailing boat.

You might check the "JeffH or others" post below. It has quite a few suggestions in this range.

I would suggest looking at C&C 29''s or C&C 30''s, the Laser 28, Dehler''s, etc. Goto a site like www.yachtworld.com and you can put in price, length, and geographic parameters.
