The conversion from power......???''''s

Qualifiers:
Family of 5, oldest child is 14 and twins 10.

Lake Michigan cruising and day sailing.

Very little experience, but comitting to the entire family taking sailing lessons.

We spend most every weekend on the boat even if weather prohibits moving out of the slip.

Budget of 50,000 for the boat.

The questions:

We are looking at 1980''s vintage boats that fit the budget.

We are searching for thoughts on which to most seriously look at, given a solid updated boat.....

Hunter 34''s of the mid 80''s seem to offer the combination of living space and reasonable "sailability" for an affordable price.

That thought in mind, I would be most appreciative to hear any opinions on which boat we should be looking for.

Any thoguhts on other options?

Thanks for any thoughts...

Bill

Bill, you won''t get well-targeted suggestions unless you tell us how you''ll be using the boat. Where will you be sailing her, if off the lake, for how long...and perhaps even a bit about ''must haves'' as viewed by the crew members.

Whoosh,

We will use this boat for daysailing, weekend overnighters, and the occasional vacation of one or two weeks mostly traveling up adn down the west coast of Michigan.

Must haves really only fall into accomadations for the 5 of us on board. A decent quarterbirth or aft cabin is needed. We would also like to have the master closed off by a door so mom and dad can have a little privacy.

I hope this helps and thanks for any info. It is really appreciated.

With that many people, especially several soon-to-be-teens, more is better. While the Hunter 34 does have three separate cabins, with that budget, you may be able to find a Hunter 37 (cutter) which would give your growing family more room. The 37 offers a much larger forward cabin, with a huge head & shower adjacent. Children can or adults be happy in the aft cabin, and there are many opening hatches and ports for good ventilation. Both the 34 andthe 37 sail
reasonable well, though they''re not rockets. You may also want to check out C&C 36''s for what you''re looking to do.
