Re: vang to boom attachment

Your vang attachment is the welded tang to the right of the cleat in your pic.. no way that riveted little bale is for the vang.

Re: vang to boom attachment

100% agree.....that eye is not a vang attachment point. the Vang needs to connect to the welded bracket.

Re: vang to boom attachment

Faster is absolutely correct. The weldment is for the vang, the other thing... no idea.

As a rule the vang is the highest loaded sail control, except maybe the backstay. It will always have some big honking piece of metal to attach to.

Re: vang to boom attachment

The little bail might have been for some shock cord or something to keep the line from the vang from hanging up on something when you gibe? You may have had a hard vang at some point???

Re: vang to boom attachment

What is labeled "vang attachment" in the image attachment

(BTW [rant]- I hate image attachments. Instead do this:
[/rant])
is an "eye strap" also called an "inchworm." This one was being used as a fairlead for that blue line with the white tracer.

As others have pointed out, there is NO WAY that this was used as a boom vang attachment.
