Rudder for C&C 24

I'm wondering if anyone has sources or recommendations to for replacing a rudder on a 1976 C&C 24. I'm looking at buying the boat but the rudder has a pretty significant crack running across the top of it and I'd just like to know what I'm getting myself into before finalizing my purchase.
Also as a follow up, is it hard to find parts for these boats and does anyone have some good recommended sources?
Thanks

C&C 24 Rudder

Without seeing the crack in the rudder, I can't say for sure, but I think your best bet might be to repair your existing rudder.

You might also want to check out the C&C owner's site: C&C Yachts - C&C Photo Album & Resource Center

Check South Shore Yachts...they have many C&C replacement parts. Rudders are expensive, may be better to rebuild if salvageable.

Agree try to repair rudder, if you need to call in a fiberglass guy, consider the cost to repair in your
purchase price.
Rudder manufacturers/repairs:
Foss/Finco in Calif. 714 973-2878
FossFoam/Newrudder in Fl. 352-529 1104
Foss Foam/Newrudder has built rudders for many of the
boat manufacturers for many years, as well as custom
jobs.
Buying a new rudder is very expensive, is rudder stock
good, you could build new rudder around it if can't repair
original. Good luck, Hugo

Thanks for all the info. I was under the impression that it might be expensive to have one rebuilt. Here's a picture of the rudder for your interest. Maybe it's not even something that needs repair?

How far down does the crack go?

Good question. I'm honestly not sure how far it goes down.

Phil's Foils in Ottawa is another good place to rebuild your rudder, they quoted me $1200 to rebuild the one on my 1988 30 Mk II which is significantly bigger.

If you can't effect a repair yourself or get a reasanable repair estimate check price at Ruddercraft, still probably 600-1000 dollars at least. Perhaps a moisture check to see if the rudder is saturated would indicate if a small self repair is all that is needed.

I had a new rudder made for my C&C 35 mkII by southshore years ago. 3500.00. After seeing your photo I would repair what you have. The reason i say this is getting a new rudder made for a C&C is a trip. The drawings are in canadian maritime mueseum. It takes 3 months and they made mine wrong three times.
