Filling holes in deck

ok guys.. next stupid question....

I have some fittings on my deck which I will be removing, like the spinaker pole mount, and I want to fill the holes.

I have read that I should use Marine Tex to fill the hole using a nail and spinning it. Actually I've used this method and it works well. My real question is: I'm told to use plastic and strong tape to cover the repair until it cures. What plastic?? Plastic wrap? the lid from margarine buckets? What? Won't it stick to the Marine Tex and be hard to remove?

I'm told this covering will make a smooth surface not requiring much sanding, but I'm concerned about the patch sticking to the Marine Tex or am I worried about nothing?

Suggestions please...

Plastic wrap. It will peel off easily after the Marine Tex cures.

You could also use wax paper... I have had good luck with it also.
