Re: 2013 C&C Rendezvous at Thetis Island
Hey Alfy, how's things?
We too have made our reservations but we just recieved an email from Yacht Sales West that Felicity and Paridigam Shift, the two main organizers of the event, will not be at the rendezvous.
There will be no corporate sponsorship and the email basically read that we are on our own as far as drinks, food and entertainment and anything else we wish to do, including the dinghy races.
They are looking for volunteers for the weekend. The email is in my wifes email account so I will have to wait until she can send it too me.
I will post the volunteering info later.
Last year was the first year with no real corporate sponsorship and now this. Although there was a good turn out last year I am concerned that this event will fade away without the right people involved.
If we had the time we would do it ourselves but we cannot commit to anything much right now with two large elderly dogs.

Re: 2013 C&C Rendezvous at Thetis Island
Here is a cut and paste of the email.

A warm spring welcome to our fellow C&C owners! We have had some queries already regarding the 2013 C&C Rendezvous, so hereís the lowdown.
The 2013 Rendezvous will have a different format this year, for several reasons. The core organizers of the last few rdvís are stepping down for this year to have more time on our boats. Frank & Deanna, on Felicity, will be up in the Broughtons and/or Desolation for much of the summer, while Anne and Jim, on Paradigm Shift, are planning a 3-month circumnavigation of Vancouver Island. Margaret Ketchen, on Cardhu, will help with the organizing for a less structured event and we hope to have other volunteers to make the fun happen. We are asking for more participation from everyone for this yearís event to be even better.
There will be no formal pre-registration with the organizers this year, but each boat will have to be registered with the marina to have their space reserved. All the information you need to do this is on the web site: rdv page There will be event registration at the dock with a nominal fee to cover facilities rental.
Yacht Sales West is not going to be sponsoring the Friday night wine meet & greet this year due to other obligations, so itís going to be BYOB plus an appie to share with the crowd.
As a result of the new lean team, there will be no formal dinner this year on Saturday night, but the Pavilion will be available for those who want to join in a pot luck dessert frenzy. The marina store has many delicious things to choose from if you donít want to make crepes Suzette au beurre díorange on board. Everyone is invited to arrive at the pavilion at 7:30 PM for the annual announcements and prize draws.
We hope to have volunteers to run some fun events like the blindfold dinghy races, and one or two to organize a Tech Talk. Please let us know if youíd like to be involved.
Weíre going to miss you guys!

Re: 2013 C&C Rendezvous at Thetis Island
We were all set to go, but if there's nothing happening other than a bunch of C&C owners mooring up then sitting around then I wonder if it's worth the trek. Of course we might not be C&C owners at that point either.
I guess there's nothing to stop someone else arranging some events, it doesn't have to follow the format of previous years so we don't even have to face the usual public shaming of my rowing skills.
What would you want to see/do/hear/participate in? If we can come up with ideas then we could ask for volunteers to help organise different bits. I guess it also depends on what the venue would be willing to allow. Nikki and I used to organise many big events (a couple of hundred people travelling from all over Europe), I'm sure we could help.

Re: 2013 C&C Rendezvous at Thetis Island
That's all it was last year, a bunch of C&C owners sitting around.
We met a lot of nice people last year that we still have contact with and the weather was spectacular.
We are still going, we are making it a stop in our summer cruise.
But if you're not going to have a C&C by then, well, sorry mate that just changes everything.:D

If you guys have time to pitch in, I'll FB you some contact info.

Re: 2013 C&C Rendezvous at Thetis Island
Yes, I also got that email and it's too bad about the primary organizers being absent this year, but it a well deserved break for them I'm sure!

Yes it was basically a whole lot of C&C boats of all shapes and sizes owned by great people at a great location!

As for the event being worth while to attend this year, I wold say ABSOLUTELY!!

Re: 2013 C&C Rendezvous at Thetis Island
Yeah, true enough, bunch of boat owners, assorted amounts of drinks, what can possibly go wrong? :D
As of tomorrow it appears I'm not a C&C owner anyway, so put me down for a possible maybe.
