Swing Keel Connection Help!

Hello

I have a 1973 Catalina that I picked up for short money with a trailer. The PO gave me the cable replacement kit and when I went to do the replacement today and discovered that where the cable attaches to the keel is either broken or worn right off. I am not sure how these connect and am hoping someone can help. I assume it either had a tab that stuck up and the cable would connect to that or there was a hole that the clevis pin passed thru. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. I've tried to include a pic but it won't let me because I'm a big fat 0. If you would like a pic let me know and I will email you. Thanks...

Re: Swing Keel Connection Help!

Thanks for the info. I think I'll have to extract the broken eye bolt and tap a new one in. Hopefully it'll go smooth.

Any update on the keel project? I just got a '74 and want to inspect and maintenance the keel and rig, for peace of mind.

Re: Swing Keel Connection Help!

I ended up ordering the replacement eye bolt that gets screwed into the keel it never installed it. Instead I drilled through the keel and put a narrow stainless steel shackle (2 actually) on the keel and connected that to the cable. Maybe down the road I'll have it installed. I recently had the boat hoisted on a lift and everything checked out fine.
