Fixing a Separting Deck. Poor Man's Way.
Poor/Lazy way to fix a separating deck. 3 Tubes of liquid Nails, a Stainless Bolt, a new cleet, and a 1x on the bottom to hold it all together. Ha. Actually worked surprisingly well.

Oh Lord, where's my popcorn?

Where did you squeeze the Liquid Nails..? You didn't use three tubes just on that one board...?

garyguss 12-14-2011 02:58 PM

Are you going to remove the board after it all sets up? I can feel the disdain for this non Don Casey method starting already but hey, go sailing and have fun.. probably wont be crossing the ocean on this boat anyway

Really just used to liquid nails to hold the bottom piece of fiberglass back in place, the wood core was surprisingly still intact, there wasn't alot of rot and it was dry.. We'll see, didn't flex at all so I think it will hold for the little mud hole we sail in up here.

And no, I won't be making any big ocean crossings anytime soon in this boat. I bought the thing for 800$.. I refuse to put alot into it. So it will either hold, or be a spectacular failure.. either way, I'll be sure to post pictures. Ha!

My 74 SanJuan 21 is named Wabi Sabi for several good reasons, 10' rule applies... its not Yachtie but it sails just fine

Let us know if you suddenly have a big new extra companionway or something..

PaulSims 12-14-2011 04:56 PM

Ha That's a very good possibility. Guess i was going to have to remove that front section of deck anyways.. ha. I'm afraid if this goes to hell, i'll just start over. It's insured.

One for the Naysayers. Got a good days sail in 10-15 knots wind. Don't believe I'll be running in anything stronger than that up here.
