I plan on pulling out my old bronze shaft tomorrow and replacing everything including the Cutlass Bearing. I have assembled all of the tools that have been suggested for removing the old bearing. I have my 12" threaded rod and washers. I went down to prep the boat for the first step tomorrow which is the shaft removal when I noticed the painted over set screws in my Skeg. Does this change anything in the removal process? Should it be any easier to remove because of the set screws? One other issue and that was it looks like one set screw might be stripped. I was able to easily remove one screw. I did not have my metric set of Allen Wrenches with me. Before I hit the panic button and attempt to drill out the stripped screw I figured I would try a metric key.
