Tabernacle Mast - Pros/Cons

Hi there, in the market for a Cat 400. I found one with a tabernacle mast...should I be worried about anything? Specifically, will it be stronger or weaker than a keel stepped mast, and will it effect resale value either way?

IMHO, the only reason to purchase a boat w/t-mast, is if you are gonna be slipped somewhere that you have to go under a bridge, and need to lower the mast.

By any chance you looking at Mercy Mercy in Wilmington, CA?
If yes, probably a little room to negotiate on the price.

Bill Crealock designed his boats with deck stepped (tabernacle) masts as does Kai Gustafson of Nauticat fame. These masts were not meant to be lowered under bridges. A well designed deck stepped mast has great integrity.
