Re: Cal 28 Flushdeck

hey Dale,
thx for the reply. can you tell me how your outhaul is configured and does your 28 have the "floating" gooseneck? Could you send some pics? it would be a great help. the guys that owned my boat were "motor" sailors and removed or modified a lot of the rigging.

Re: Cal 28 Flushdeck

Hi there - late to the thread, but maybe this will help.
We cruise and actively race our cal 28 flushdeck in Portland, OR. There are lots of pictures of our boat and rigging on our boat's facebook page. you should be able to find it by searching for Team Wizard, or typing in WizardCal28.
Our outhaul runs inside the boom, through a floating block, and out a slot on the underside to a cleat. it has a 4:1 purchase, but is a bit of a finicky design.
Our gooseneck does ride on a separate track from the main. Standard procedure for us is to release the vang, cunningham, and fine-tune completely, hoist the main as usual, then bowse down the gooseneck using the coarse and fine cunninghams to get the sail shape we want. Last season we lost half of the screws that attach the gooseneck track to the mast, thanks to a combination of crevice fatigue and galvanic corrosion. We noticed it one day when I tried to tuck in a reef and the gooseneck track was bent away from the mast at an alarming angle. PITA to fix, but drilling and tapping oversized holes solves lots of problems.
Let me know if you have any other questions - we're on our second year of rehabbing and campaigning the boat, so I've been over every inch of her with a microscope.
Trevor
